The failure of the effort of six-party talk in achieving early denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula (2005-2006)

Six-Party Talk is a multilateral forum that accommodates its member to agree in common goal that stipulated within the Joint Agreement. It consists of six Neighboring states, they are: United States of America, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, China and Russia. This research is focusing on the failure of Joint Statement 2005 Six-Party Talks, marked by North Korea's series of missile launched and eventually the nuclear exercised in 2006. Despite the fact that North Korea would have important assistance and agreement in 2006, DPRK launched seven ballistic missiles and followed by underground nuclear test. This undergraduate thesis explores factors that cause joint statement 2005 failed to keep the entire member to continue their effort under the terms has been drawn. What the writer would try to accomplish is to seek the answer for their failure by rendering the factors that emerged. The writer also analyzes based on every aspect from each perspective and interest that perhaps will help the writer to explain the reason behind why it was not working. The Nuclear underground test and missiles launch incident happened after US put financial sanction by closing North Korean Bank account in Banco Delta Asia. From the incident, we could find at least two factors that let the Joint statement 2005 failed. First is the fact that North Korea always seems like hiding something. And the other one is the distrust from US due to its behavior. Since both of them are the important player who have significant role in the SPT, it would be likely for Joint Statement to failed due to the unhealthy bilateral relation from both parties
