The notes procedures in translating islamic terms in i am Malala novel

In this research, the writer focuses on the analysis of notes procedures, that is, the translation procedure in translating Islamic terms in I Am Malala by Malala Yousazai and Christina Lamb: novel translated by Ingrid Dwijani Nimpoeno. The objective of this research is to know what kinds of notes procedures used in translating Islamic terms of the novel. The writer employs descriptive qualitative method. The writer describes notes procedures used by the translator to translate the selected Islamic terms. She analyses the translation by reading the source language and its translation, marking the Islamic terms, selecting and analyzing them based on Newmark?s theory about notes procedures, then comparing the meaning of Islamic terms in some dictionaries. The research reveals that there are 11 selected Islamic terms. It can be concluded that as follows: first, nine Islamic terms translated by using notes within the text (one notes as an alternative to translated word, one notes as a participial group,one notes as an adjectival clause, one notes in brackets, two notes as a noun in apposition, three notes in parentheses); second, one Islamic term translated by using notes within the text (as an adjectival clause) and notes or glossary at the end of book; and third, one Islamic term translated by using notes at bottom of page (footnote) and notes or glossary at the end of book. From the analysis, it is found that the procedure of notes within the text is the most dominant in the translation of Islamic terms
