An analysis of the translation procedures used in translation taboo words and taboo phrases in movie subtitle of brooklyn's finest from english into Indonesian

In this research, the writer concerns with translation study, that is, the translation procedure in the translation of taboo word and taboo phrase in subtitle Brooklyn?s Finest. The objectives of the research are: (1) to describe the type of translation procedures used by the translator in translating the selected taboo word and taboo phrase, (2) to classify the selected taboo words and taboo phrases. The writer uses qualitative descriptive method in order to reach the objectives of the research. The writer uses himself in collecting data; by watching the movie and its subtitle, marking the taboo words and taboo phrase, selecting, classifying and analyzing them based on the theories of translation procedure which are taken from some relevant references. Findings of this study show, first, there are eight types of taboo words and taboo phrases namely insults and slurs, epithets, profanity, taboo, slang, vulgarity, cursing, scatology, and obscenity; second, there are seven procedures are used to render the selected taboo words and taboo phrase from English into Indonesia include equivalence, transposition, literal translation, modulation, borrowing, calque, and adaptation
