The effectiveness of peer feedback through blog for students? descriptive writing : an experimental study at the first grade of SMK Grafika

The objective of this research was to see the effectiveness of Peer Feedback through Blog technique toward students‟ descriptive writing. The sample of this research was the first grade students of SMK Grafika Yayasan Lektur. They were class 10A as the controlled class and class 10B as the experimental class. Each class consists of 18 students. For sampling technique, the researcher used purposive sampling. The method used in this research was a quantitative method. In addition, the design used was a quasi-experimental study and the instrument of this research was a written test. To attain the reliability of the test instrument, the researcher used rubric of scoring namely an analytic scoring to score the students‟ writing on the pre-test and post-test. The result of this research was that the students‟ pre-test mean score ( X ) of the experimental class was 51.89 while the students‟ post-test mean score ( X ) was 78.61. On the contrary, the students‟ pre-test mean score ( X ) of the controlled class was 71.94 and the post-test mean score ( X ) was 75.78. The significant effect was shown by the students‟ post-test mean score ( X ) of the experimental class which was treated by peer feedback technique was greater than the post-test mean score of the controlled class which was not treated by peer feedback through blog technique. The result of statistical hypothesis test found that on significance level 5% tvalue was 7.25 while ttable was 1.691or tvalue > ttable. Thus, Ho (Null Hypothesis) was rejected and the Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted. It proved that application of Peer Feedback through Blog technique is effective. In other words, there was a positive effect of using Peer Feedback through Blog technique towards the students‟ skill in writing descriptive text
