Textbook analysis on speaking materials written on english in focus: an analytical on english textbook for first year of Junior High School

The aim of this research is to find out whether or not the speaking materials of English textbook entitled �English in Focus� for the first grade of junior high school students compatible with the KTSP and to describe the feasibility of contents, language and presentation of the textbook. This research is using descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected from the textbook entitled �English in Focus� for the first grade of junior high school students published by Depdiknas and from the KTSP. After getting the data, the writer analyzed the data from the speaking materials of the textbook. The findings of the study stated that (1) the presentation of the speaking materials in this textbook is not exactly compatible with the curriculum. That is proven by the fact that there are some of speaking materials suggested in curriculum not include in this textbook. (2) The order of presentation of the speaking materials in this textbook is not presented systematically and not compatible with the latest curriculum. In terms of the feasibility of language, the language that used in this textbook is simple and understandable. Based on the research finding above, the writer suggests that English teachers should pay attention to the content of the textbook that they used to teach their students. They have to choose the textbook which is compatible with the latest curriculum. It is also hope that textbook authors will present speaking materials which are compatible with the latest curriculum
