The effectiveness of pre-questioning towards students? reading comprehension (a quasi-experimental study at the eighth grade of MTs Annajah Jakarta Selatan)

This study was aimed to see whether pre-questioning is effective towards students? achievement in reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of MTs Annajah Jakarta. Therefore, it was intended to get reliable information whether there was a significant difference in the students? reading comprehension between the experimental class and the control class. The research method used in this study was a-quasi experimental study. The sample of this study is 32 students. The experimental class was taught by using pre-questioning while the control class was taught without using pre-questioning. Before giving the treatment, the students from both classes were given pre-test to know what extent their ability in reading comprehension. At the end of the treatment, the students were given posttest. The test used as the primary instrument was consisting of 20 multiple choice questions. The data from both classes was analyzed by using T-test with significant level ? = 0.01/1%, which the criteria is t-value > t-table. From the result of the statistical calculation, it showed that the value of tt with df 62 in the significance 1% is 2.388, while the value of the to is 3.92. Thus, alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted that there is a significant different between students? achievement in reading comprehension which was taught by using prequestioning and without pre-questioning. Therefore, it can be concluded that prequestioning was effective to improve students? achievement on reading comprehension
