Nursing Professional Education: an analysis of the curriculum from the perspective of gender

This dissertation analyses the curriculum of Nursing, at undergraduate level, taking the gender perspective. Considering the importance of the introduction of the critical lenses of gender studies in the Nursing formative process, as a way of questioning and destabilizing ideological arguments which guarantee the gender division of work, the knowledge relations that sustain the hegemony of cure over care, and the power relations that legitimize the Medicine over Nursing hierarchy, the analysis attempts to answer the following questions: How are gender issues addressed by the Nursing curriculum? Does the curriculum deconstruct or legitimize gender stereotypes? In what perspectives are subjects represented within the curriculum? What kinds of knowledge are valued by the curriculum? What kinds of knowledge are silenced? A qualitative approach and documental analysis were used in order to answer these questions. The data sources were the Nursing undergraduate course pedagogical project (1999), the course outlines (2007, 2008, 2009 e 2010) and the graduation final monographs (2002-2009) from one public institution of higher education. The analysis and interpretation were based on gender studies and cultural studies theoretical concepts, according to which it was possible to assert that the knowledge endorsed by the Nursing curriculum in point predominantly represents a non-critical reproduction of the biomedical hegemonic model in Health, which contributes to legitimize an androcentric formative paradigm. In order to revert such a reproductive route alterations in curricular content and the introduction of critical concepts from the field of gender studies are indicated aiming at contesting and transforming stereotypes that impede the development of Nursing as an autonomous, critical and socially valued occupation.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorNesta dissertação analiso o currículo do Curso de Graduação em Enfermagem na perspectiva de gênero. Considerando a importância da inserção da lente crítica dos estudos de gênero no processo formativo em Enfermagem como forma de questionar e desestabilizar os argumentos ideológicos que garantem a divisão sexual do trabalho, as relações de saber que sustentam a hegemonia do tratamento curativo sobre o cuidado e as relações de poder que legitimam a hierarquia entre Enfermagem e Medicina, este estudo pautou-se nos seguintes questionamentos: Como o currículo de Enfermagem contempla as questões de gênero? O currículo desconstrói ou legitima estereótipos de gênero na formação? Sob quais perspectivas são representados os sujeitos no currículo? Quais saberes são valorizados no currículo? Quais saberes são silenciados? Para responder a estas questões utilizei a abordagem qualitativa, utilizando como técnica a análise documental. As fontes de investigação consistiram no projeto pedagógico (1999), planos curriculares de ensino (2007, 2008, 2009 e 2010) e os trabalhos acadêmicos de conclusão de curso (2002-2009) em uma instituição de ensino superior pública. Para desenvolver o processo analítico interpretativo elegi as teorizações inscritas no campo dos Estudos Culturais e de Gênero. Através do olhar sobre o Currículo em Enfermagem na perspectiva de gênero, posso afirmar que o conhecimento perpetrado pelo currículo representa, predominantemente, a reprodução acrítica do modelo hegemônico (biomédico) em saúde, o que contribui para legitimação e fixação do paradigma formativo androcêntrico. Para romper essa trajetória reprodutiva aponto a reformulação de conteúdos curriculares e a introdução de conceitos críticos do campo dos estudos de gênero para contestação e transformação dos estereótipos que dificultam a expansão da Enfermagem como atividade autônoma, crítica e valorizada
