This paper begins with the study of the trajectory of Black identity construction in Brazil from the controversial Abolition of Slavery and the precarious integration of Black people in class society, based mainly on the studies of Florestan Fernandes. Building on the analysis of that historical event, it is argued in favor its social impact on Black people s lifes has had far-reaching effects on shaping Black identity and has finally required Black Movement`s action meant to move political and social structures based on deep-rooted discriminating and stigmatising standards.
