Gender identities and curriculum: the discourse conveyed in textbooks

This research work aimed to verify which speeches about the constitutions of gender identities that pass over the textbooks for Portuguese language used in classes from 1st to 5th grade at municipal schools of the city of João Pessoa. The research was developed by observing the contexts and contributions of theories about identity, gender and discourse analysis. These theoretical knowledge provided conditions to identify and apprehend the gender relations that have been established in images and texts analyzed. The analysis consisted in checking and interpretation of representations about gender identities present in the texts and illustrations. Quantitatively were used five textbooks on which was initially performed a survey of representations and texts related to the topic under study, being cataloged 21 images and 19 texts that accounted for the relations of gender identities. The result of the analysis made the observation that there is a trend of assimilation of quantitative representations of male and female genders, however the context and the relations established between them still favors the process of male hegemony. This observation reinforces the need for a new look on the reading practices performed in various textual intakes, so that will make it possible to denaturalize the relations that are established between the genders in society.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESEste trabalho de pesquisa tem como propósito verificar quais os discursos sobre as constituições das identidades de gênero que perpassam os livros didáticos de língua portuguesa utilizados nas turmas do 1º ao 5º ano, na rede municipal da prefeitura de João Pessoa. O trabalho foi desenvolvido observando os contextos e contribuições das teorias acerca da identidade, gênero e análise do discurso. Esses conhecimentos teóricos proporcionaram condições de identificar e apreender as relações dos gêneros que se estabeleceram nas imagens e textos analisados. A análise constituiu-se na verificação e interpretação das representações acerca das identidades de gênero presentes nos textos e imagens ilustrativas. Quantitativamente, foram utilizados cinco livros didáticos nos quais foi realizado, inicialmente, um levantamento das representações e textos correlacionados com a temática em estudo, sendo elencados 21 imagens e 19 textos que representaram as relações das identidades de gênero. O resultado da análise possibilitou a constatação de que existe uma tendência de equiparação quantitativa de representações dos gêneros masculino e feminino, no entanto, o contexto e as relações estabelecidas entre eles ainda favorecem o processo da hegemonia masculina. Tal constatação reforça a necessidade de um novo olhar sobre as práticas de leitura realizadas nos diversos aportes textuais, de forma que possibilite desnaturalizar as relações que se estabelecem entre os gêneros na sociedade
