ALTERAÇÕES OCULARES EM MACACO-PREGO(Sapajus libidinosus) - RELATO DE CASO

In the veterinary ophthalmology area, there are few published reports of ocular conditions affecting nonhuman primates. This case report describes the occurrence of nuclear cataract and arcus senilis in both eyes of an elderly Capuchin monkey (Sapajus libidinosus), kept in captivity at the IBAMA's Wild Animal Sorting Center (CETAS), in Cabedelo - PB. After adequate physical and chemical restraint, ophthalmic examination was performed with a magnifying glass and a flashlight, Schirmer's tear test for evaluation of tear production per minute (mm / min), aplanation tonometry for determination of intraocular pressure (IOP) in mmHg and ocular surface analysis composed by the study of bacterial microbiology and conjunctival cytology. The values obtained in the Schirmer's tear test for both eyes were 3 mm / minute. The IOP was 11 mmHg for the left eye and 7 mmHg for the right eye. In the microbiological analysis, the species of bacteria isolated from the conjunctival sac were Staphylococcus coagulase positive and E. coli. The conjunctival cytology revealed predominance of intermediate cells, presence of neutrophils, free and intracytoplasmic bacteria in the left eye, and in the right eye were observed predominance of intermediate cells, many keratinized cells and presence of bacteria. As humans and other nonhuman primates, the Capuchin monkey (Sapajus libidinosus) may be affected by age-related ocular changes such as cataracts and arcus senilis.No que se refere à oftalmologia veterinária, existem poucos relatos publicados de afecções oculares que acometem os primatas não humanos. O presente relato de caso descreve a ocorrência de catarata nuclear e arcus senilis em ambos os olhos de um macaco-prego (Sapajus libidinosus) idoso, mantido em cativeiro no Centro de Triagem de Animais Silvestres (CETAS) do IBAMA, em Cabedelo – PB. Depois de adequada contenção física e química, realizou-se exame oftálmico com auxílio de lupa e lanterna, teste da lágrima de Schirmer para avaliação da produção de lágrima por minuto (mm/min), tonometria de aplanação para determinação da pressão intraocular (PIO) em mmHg e análise da superfície ocular composta pelo estudo da microbiologia bacteriana e da citologia conjuntival. Os valores obtidos no teste da lágrima de Schirmer para os dois olhos foi 3 mm/minuto. A PIO foi 11 mmHg para o olho esquerdo e 7 mmHg para o olho direito. Na análise microbiológica, os gêneros bacterianos isoladas do saco conjuntival foram Staphylococcus coagulase positiva e E. coli. A citologia conjuntival revelou predominância de células intermediárias, presença de neutrófilos, bactérias livres e intracitoplasmáticas no olho esquerdo e, no olho direito observou-se predominância de células intermediárias, muitas células queratinizadas e presença de bactérias. Assim como seres humanos e outros primatas não humanos, o macaco-prego (Sapajus libidinosus) pode ser afetado por alterações oculares decorrentes da idade, tais como a catarata e o arcus senilis
