INDIGESTÃO VAGAL EM VACA COM PRENHEZ AVANÇADA: CONDUTA CLÍNICA PARA ASSEGURAR SOBREVIVÊNCIA NO FETO.

Vagal indigestion or Hoflund syndrome is a motor disorder that makes difficult the passage of food through the ruminorreticular cavity, abomasum or both, due to full or partial compression of the vagus nerve. Is found more frequently in cows with a history of ingestion of foreign bodies, because the adhesions associated traumatic reticulitis often pressure branches of the vagus nerve or prevent the reticular motility. The objective of this study was to report the clinical and pathological aspects of a case of vagal indigestion secondary to RPT in cattle in late pregnancy and the therapeutic procedures established in order to prolong the life of the mother and ensure the viability of the fetus. The affected animal, a Dutch mixed, three-year-old, remained hospitalized in Veterinary UFPB Hospital receiving therapy with saline, dextrose and fluid ruminal, but in the 12th day of admission occurred worsening of the case and in 14th day the fetus was removed by cesarean section, being the mother after surgery euthanized and subjected to necroscopy. At necropsy was identified a foreign body and lesions consistent with traumatic reticulitis and vagal indigestion. The fetus was a female of about 18 kg, with estimated age of 238 days. In the first 12 hours of life the presented a series of complications, such as breathing difficulty, sucking difficulties and hypothermia, but with the use of dexamethasone, artificial ventilation, artificial heating and forced ingestion of colostrum complications were being reversed. After 72 hours of life was identified failure in acquisition of passive immunity. The procedures adopted in relation to mother and fetus were satisfactory, since the mother's survival until the fetus reached an approximate age of 240 days and the newborn, considered of high risk, due to severe maternal illness and induced labor, in the fifth day of life left the hospital with healthy appearance.A indigestão vagal ou Síndrome de Hoflund é um distúrbio motor que dificulta a passagem de alimentos através da cavidade ruminorreticular, do abomaso ou de ambos devido à compressão total ou parcial do nervo vago. É encontrada mais frequentemente em vacas com histórico de ingestão de corpos estranhos, pois as aderências associadas as reticulites traumáticas frequentemente pressionam ramos do nervo vago ou impedem a motilidade reticular. O objetivo deste trabalho é relatar os aspectos clínico-patológicos de um caso de indigestão vagal secundária a RPT em bovino em final de gestação e as condutas terapêuticas instituídas com o objetivo de prolongar a vida da mãe e assegurar a viabilidade do feto. O animal acometido, uma mestiça de holandês, de três anos de idade, permaneceu internada no Hospital Veterinário da UFPB recebendo terapia com soro fisiológico, soro glicosado e fluido ruminal, porém no 12o dia de internamento ocorreu agravamento do caso e no 14o dia o feto foi retirado através de cesariana, sendo a seguir a mãe eutanasiada e necropsiada. Na necropsia foi identificado um corpo estranho perfurante e lesões compatíveis com reticulite traumática e indigestão vagal. O feto era uma fêmea de aproximadamente 18 kg, com idade estimada em 238 dias. Nas primeiras 12 horas de vida apresentou uma série de complicações, como dificuldades respiratórias, dificuldades de sucção e hipotermia, porém com a utilização de dexametasona, ventilação artificial com ambú, aquecimento artificial e ingestão forçada de colostro as complicações foram sendo revertidas. Após 72 horas de vida foi identificada falha na aquisição de imunidade passiva. Os procedimentos adotados em relação à mãe e ao feto foram satisfatórios, pois a sobrevivência da mãe foi assegurada até que o feto atingisse uma idade aproximada de 240 dias e o neonato, considerado de alto risco devido à doença materna grave e parto induzido, aos cinco dias de vida deixou o hospital com aspecto hígido
