The present research revolves around the production of the schwa sound by Language Major students from Federal University of Paraiba, in João Pessoa. The goals of this paper are to quantify and analyze whether the schwa is produced in lexical words. We believe that extralinguistic factors can influence on the production of schwa in the speaking skill of brazilian students. Therefore, we selected three factors in order to prove such hypothesis: proficiency level, phonological awareness and gender.
