Background - An estimated 26 million people in the world experience schizophrenia. 1 in 4 family members experience a mental disorder and is often not diagnosed properly so that they do not receive proper treatment and treatment (Sulahyuningsih, 2016). The American Psychiatric Association (APA) 2010 states that 1% of the world's population averages 0.85% suffer from schizophrenia. Families who have schizophrenics regard patients as family disgrace and make sufferers experience social isolation. Lack of family knowledge in treating patients is a major factor in increasing the recurrence rate of schizophrenics. Objective - Describe family perceptions of recurrence of schizophrenic psychiatric patients. Method - This study uses a qualitative type of research which is a phenomenological approach. Qualitative research is a research that focuses on the depth of the data and the research process so that it only involves 5 participants. The basic principle of sampling in qualitative research is data saturation, data saturation is a sampling that reaches a saturation point where no new information and experience is obtained and achieved. Results - The results of research on family perceptions of recurrence of schizophrenic mental disorder patients at the Regional Mental Hospital Dr. Amino Gondohutomo of Central Java Province produced several themes, among others: Mental disorders as a nervous function disorder that occurs in the brain because of the many burdens and stressors that result in anger out of control, the causes of mental illness recurrence occur due to family factors, spirits and thoughts that heavy and not taking medication, signs and symptoms of recurrence in patients with mental disorders are patients experiencing behavioral changes such as silence, strange talk does not stop and angry until rampaging, family management in treating recurrence of mental disorder patients that is treating clients left, fulfilling rights, desires, needs and bring to the hospital when relapse, and family expectations of psychiatric patients who often recur hope clients recover, not relapse and are always healthy
