Abstract

A new phase, consisting of an ordered intergrowth (2457) between the superconducting structures TlBa2Ca2Cu3O 8.5+or-y and TlBa2Ca3Cu4O 10.5+or-y has been synthesized with lattice parameters a=3.848 AA and c=34.95 AA. The 2457 phase is observed as a substantial constituent of single thallium layer Tl-Ba-Ca-Cu-O superconducting compositions calcined for periods greater than 40 hours
