Absorption and reflection of CuBr have been studied at low temperature. The interpretation of the spectra is facilitated by the comparison with CuCl and CuI. The results are consistent with the band structure suggested by Cardona and calculated by Song for CuCl and extended to CuBr. The valence band Γ8 is at the origin of a first class exciton series ; the parameters of this series are given. The transition to the n = 2 level can be assisted by a LO phonon. The n = 1 level exhibits a fine structure line the importance of which increases from CuBr to CuI.
