The structure factor of liquid selenium has been determined at three different temperatures (258, 358, 460 °C) by neutron diffraction. Using the Fourier transform technique, the pair distribution function g(r) and the coordination number at each temperature are determined. The results show the existence of two phases. The first one (at low temperatures) is characterized by the competition between two antagonistic structures (chains ↔ rings), whereas the high temperature phase exhibits as structure more similar to that of a trigonal crystal.Le facteur de structure du sélénium liquide a été déterminé par diffraction de neutrons à trois températures différentes (258, 358, 460 °C).
