One considers a collection of atoms in the présence of spin exchange collisions. The evolution of the density matrix due to this interaction is given when there is one atomic species only. The equations of the density matrices ρ1 and ρ 2 pertaining to atoms 1 and 2 are established when two atomic species are present. When there is a large excess of atoms 2 and when the electron polarization of 2 is kept zero, one shows that spin exchange appears as a relaxation process for 1. The evolution of the following observables of 1 is computed : population of one of the hyperfine levels, longitudinal and transverse electronic and nuclear magnetizations.
