Telah dilakukan penelitian yang mengkaji tentang sintesis hidroksiapatit berbasis tulang sapi lokal Aceh. Kandungan kalsium (CaO) di dalam tulang sapi dapat dimanfaatkan untuk mensintesis hidroksiapatit. Pada penelitian ini, hidroksiapatit disintesis dari tulang sapi yang telah dicuci bersih dan dihilangkan dari lemak dengan menggunakan NaOH. Tulang sapi dikeringkan dan dikalsinasi terlebih dahulu pada temperatur 1000oC selama 2 jam. Tulang sapi kering kemudian ditumbuk hingga dihasilkan serbuk.
