Attenuation of ultrasonic waves between 0.5 and 1.8 GHz and at 9 GHz has been measured in GdAlO3 when the magnetic field is applied parallel or perpendicular to the easy axis, up to field values high enough to reach the paramagnetic phase. The results are explained, in all the examined cases, in terms of magnon-phonon resonant coupling originated in the single-ion magnetostriction. The orders of magnitude of the measured attenuation are compatible with the values of previously determined magnetoelastic coupling constants. The theoretical calculations are in good agreement with the measurements at different frequencies and allow the determination of the in-plane anisotropy (HA1 ≃ 400 G) and the spin-wave relaxation time in the different phas...
