On décrit ici les progrès accomplis récemment dans l'utilisation des méthodes de diffraction des neutrons permettant l'étude des propriétés microscopiques de l'eau. La détermination de la configuration moléculaire fait ressortir combien elle s'étire sous l'effet de la liaison hydrogène. Les études des variations de température indiquent une modification sensible des configurations moléculaires locales qui s'apparentent à la structure en réseau de la glace amorphe.
