To investigate the refractive effect in the scattering of loosely bound and exotic nuclei, the double-folding-cluster potential has been adopted in the optical model analyses of the elastic scattering of 6Li + 12C and 6He + 12C. The experimental angular distributions are reproduced very well over a wide energy range. For 6Li + 12C, the energy dependence of the optical potential agrees well with the dispersion relation. For the elastic scattering of 6He + 12C at intermediate energies, the refractive effect is predicted by the present calculation, accompanied by the abnormally weak absorption
