The behaviour of ceramic-ceramic composites submitted to thermal sollicitations has been studied using two non destructive techniques : measurements of the mean elastic moduli by an ultrasonic pulse-echo method at high temperature, and in situ testing of the thermal fatigue damage by ultrasonic spectroscopy. The paper firstly deals with the experimental methods, specifically developped for ceramic composite operations. Then two SiC fiber reinforced composites have been studied : one with a 2D fiber arrangement and a SiC matrix, the other with a 3D fiber arrangement and a SiO2 matrix. The observed variations of elastic moduli with temperature (up to 1 400 °C in an oxidizing atmosphere) and of the parameters used for thermal fatigue character...
