We present a new analysis of the v3 band of methane, including 361 lines, up to J = 16. The 19 spectral parameters are determined by a graphical method, from the lines which correspond to J =1 to 12. We reproduce the spectrum, for these 211 lines, with a standard deviation of 0.021 8 cm -1, without any very important degradation of the results for the higher J values. Then we extrapolate the computation of the theoretical spectrum (positions and absolute intensities) for the lines up to J = 16. The comparison with the spectrum by Plyler et al. is satisfactory, at least for the most intense lines.
