We are engaged in a program directed toward the preparation and the experimental study of p-n graded band-gap CdTe-CdxHg1- xTe solar cells [1, 2]. It has been shown [3] that a gradel band-gap structure both contributes to voltage output of the cell (bulk photovoltaic effect [4]) and decreases surface and bulk minority carriers recombination losses (enhancement of minority carrier diffusion lengths) through the built-in quasi electric field. One part of the program is devoted to the epitaxial growth of CdTe thin film using a Close-Spaced Vapor Transport (C. S. V. T.) process.
