The amplifying médium of a laser is not homogeneous due to transversal and longitudinal variations of saturation. We give a perturbation theory which allows the calculation of the conséquences of this inhomogeneity on the non perturbed fundamental Gaussian eigen-mode of a homogeneous cavity. This theory predicts that two parameters characterizing the output beam have asymmetric variations in frequency : the intensity on the laser axis has its minimum on the higher side frequency and the diameter of the mode has its minimum on the other side.
