The optical constants of Au-Ni alloys have been obtained from measurement of the reflectance and transmittance of thin films prepared by evaporation in vacuum. The nickel concentration is deduced from the variation of the crystal parameter measured by X-rays (Debye-Scherrer method). The d. c. resistivity of the films has also been measured. We found an absorption band in the infra-red, which is shifted towards shorter wavelengths when the Ni concentration is increased, the intensity of which appears to be a linear function of the concentration. For higher énergies (up to 6.2 eV), a modification of the absorption bands of gold due to the internal photoelectric effect has been found.
