Atténuation ultrasonore critique dans Gd2(Moo4) 3

We report measurements of the critical attenuation of longitudinal ultrasonic propagation in the vicinity of the phase transition of ferroelastic G. M. O. No critical attenuation was observed for propagation along the [001] axis, but it varied as (T — T0)-1.50±0.02 for propagation along the [100] axis in the ferroelastic phase. An expression for the ultrasonic attenuation is given in terms of an anharmonic coupling between the strain and the overdamped soft mode. The δ2 coupling coefficient is evaluated to be : 0.8 × 1027 s-2.Nous avons mesuré l'atténuation critique d'ultrasons de polarisation longitudinale dans les directions [100] et [001] d'un cristal de G. M. O. Pour la direction de propagation parallèle à [001], aucune atténuation critique n'est observée, tandis qu'elle varie comme (T — T0)-1,50±0,02 pour la direction [100], dans la phase ferro-élastique. L'expression de l'atténuation ultrasonore qui est donnée suppose un couplage anharmonique entre la déformation et le mode critique suramorti. Le coefficient de couplage δ 2 est évalué à 0,8 × 1027 s-2
