The deformation of composite armour during ballistic impact was investigated by means of high-speed photography. The composite targets consisted of ceramic tiles, aluminium sandwich panels with honeycomb core and glassfibre-reinforced plastics. Two types of projectiles were used, 12.7 mm Armour Piercing projectiles with steel core and hemispherically nosed tungsten alloy penetrators.
