An intense polarized beam of potassium atoms is produced by using a six pole magnet. Ionization of these atoms by U. V. radiation in a region of high magnetic field (B ≽ 600 Gauss) gives polarized electrons which are accelerated at 80 keV. Polarization of the beam measured by Mott-scattering on a gold film attains 72 ± 2 %, the total intensity being 2 to 3 x 10- 12 amperes.
