The aim of this paper is to present odd diffraction effects related to the presence of impurities in metals. Starting from the well-known Guinier-Preston zones in aluminium alloys, where intensity asymmetry of the diffuse scattering was first observed, we will show that these asymmetry can provide essential information on pinned charge-density waves in low dimensional systems. According to the first interpretation of Guinier, such an asymmetry is characteristic of correlation between position and substitution disorder. It will be shown that in the limit of small concentration of impurities, this intensity asymmetry can be interpreted as an “holographic diffraction” effect.
