We present the hydrodynamic equations for cholesteric liquid crystals with impurities and we propose an explanation for the experiment of Janossy in terms of the hydrodynamic equations. As it turns out the reversible coupling terms between the displacement vector and the density of linear momentum (which are already present without impurities) are responsible for the experimental observations.
