A Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) catalog of different crops (mainly wheat, alfalfa, sunflower and maize) was acquired during the whole crop cycles in 1997 (ReSeDA experiment). This was achieved using the airborne POLDER sensor. Data were thus available in four wave bands (10 or 20 nm width) centered on 443 nm, 550 nm, 670 nm and 865 nm. The aim of this study is to compare the ability of BRDF models to accurately fit and extrapolate POLDER BRDF data for a normalization process. We considered linear or semi-linear BRDF models that describe the BRDF with few parameters (3 to 6) and allow fast inversion procedures.
