Dissociation of dislocations in spinels (Al2O3) 1.8MgO

The dissociation of dislocations in the spinel (Al2O3) 1.8MgO, deformed at high temperature, has been studied by means of weak beam images in T.E.M. glide dislocations dissociate into two collinear partials 1/4 ; in certain particular configurations another dissociation mode in the { 111 } planes is observed. Hornstra's electrostatic arguments concerning the possible glide planes are discussed and corrected for the case of non-stoichiometric spinels.On a étudié, par la technique du faisceau faible en microscopie électronique, la dissociation des dislocations dans un spinelle (Al2O3)1,8MgO déformé à haute température. Les dislocations de glissement se dissocient en deux partielles colineaires 1/4 ; dans certaines configurations particulières, on observe un autre mode de dissociation dans des plans { 111 }. Les arguments d'ordre électrostatique d'Hornstra sur le choix du plan de glissement sont discutés et corrigés dans le cas de spinelles non stoechiométriques
