Dans les vermiculites hydratées à deux couches d'eau, on rencontre plusieurs types d'empilement. Le seul mode d'empilement ordonné tridimensionnellement (type VIII) est décrit à partir d'une étude aux rayons X du minéral calcique à forte humidité relative. La disposition relative des feuillets adjacents est telle que les cavités ditrigonales de surface sont face à face. Deux types de polyèdres de coordination de l'eau autour des calciums existent au sein de la couche interfoliaire, l'un d'eux ayant deux de ses sommets (H2O) engagés dans les cavités de surface des feuillets.
