The β phase of solid oxygen is rhombohedral : a = 4,210 Å ; α = 46°16'; (D5 3d); in agreement with previous X-ray measurements. The neutron diffraction pattern contains a supplementary contribution in the lines (111) and (110) which is attributed to an antiferromagnetic ordering. Neutron diagrams obtained at 20.4 °K and 4.2 °K are quite different from the diagram of the phase β — O2 and belong to the α-phase of solid oxygen.
