Each of the 2p2, 2p3, 2p4 or 2p5 levels of Ne is excited in a pulsed discharge by a tunable dye laser. The study of the light emitted from the excited level a and from a neighbouring one b allows us to determine the cross section for excitation transfers from level a to level b induced by collisions with neon atoms or helium atoms in their ground state.
