The ν0→3 absorption band of gaseous hydrogen iodide has been studied with a spectrometer, the resolving power of which reached 0.09 cm—1 in the 6 000 cm—1 region. The measurements of wave numbers of vibration-rotation lines (0.02 cm—1 précision in absolute value) allowed us to deduce a few new rotational constants. A reversal in the position of lines has been observed at the end of the R branch.
