This paper presents a model of the critical behavior of the superfluid phase of helium consistent with the general idea of the phase transition of Landau. The model explains the logarithmic singularity of the bulk helium at the lambda point which is not obtained in the original theory of Ginzburg and Pitaevskii. Here the fluctuations of the order parameter play a dominant role in the properties of the system. In the framework of this model we can calculate the superfluid density in good agreement with recent expérimental results. Making a simple assumption on the geometrical configuration we discuss the critical properties of helium due to size effects : shift in the transition temperature T0 and specific heat and superfluid density near T0...
