Un système binaire composé d'un solvant nématique (MBBA) et d'un soluté non nématogène (biphényl) est étudié pour son comportement de phase et pour la dépendance du paramètre d'ordre en fonction de la température et de la composition, dans tout le domaine nématique. On prévoit une dépendance linéaire de la température de transition nématique-isotrope en fonction de la concentration du soluté. On utilise la théorie de champ moyen de Mayer et Saupe. On en déduit la relation de correspondance température-concentration pour la spécification de l'ordre nématique.
