The optical path between the plates of a Fabry-Perot interferometer can be varied by rotating the instrument. Scanning in this way is not popular, probably because light is lost when the interferometer stands obliquely. However when such losses can be tolerated there is much to commend the method. Mechanical arrangements for rotation are simple and stable.
