The electron number density ne has been measured in wall-stabilized arcs burning in SF6-N2 mixtures, by spectroscopy and by two-wavelength laser interferometry. The relative variations of the electron density versus SF6 proportion and versus current intensity are in good agreement with the variations calculated by a modeling assuming thermal equilibrium. Nevertheless the real variations of ne in function of the measured values of the temperature show departures from the plasma composition.
