The principal objective of this study is to establish a method which can enable the assessment of fatigue life at the stage of the design and building of machine parts and equipment. The paper contains a description of a manner in which the angle of a critical plane can be determined, which is coupled with its adequate verification. The study in the paper is based on an assumption of an idea of a critical plane which adopts that the occurrence of a fatigue crack of a material is caused by the occurrence of strain in the critical plane of a material.
