During the Long Shutdown 3, scheduled from 2024 to mid 2026, CERN is planning an upgrade program in preparation of the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), which will bring the luminosity up to 5 × 1034 cm−2 s−1, almost five times the one envisaged for 2017. As a consequence, up to 200 inelastic collisions on average will be superimposed on the event of interest. In this high-occupancy environment, reconstructing charged particle momenta with high precision is one of the biggest challenges.
