Como sensores capacitivos de proximidade permitem a realização de medidas de distâncias da ordem de nanômetros a milímetros com alta precisão, característica que viabiliza a utilização dos mesmos em diversas aplicações. Nestes dispositivos, a variação na distância entre os eletrodos provoca alteração no campo elétrico entre eles e, consequentemente, na capacitância.
