Este processo encontra-se muito bem descrito em membros da salamandra. Em mamíferos, um dos principais modelos para estudo da regeneração tecidual é a extremidade de dígitos de camundongos. De acordo com a literatura, dígitos de camundongos amputados distalmente são capazes de reconstruir a parte perdida, ficando muito semelhante ao dígito de animais do grupo controle.
