By moderating the neutrons simultaneously emitted they appear in an appropriate detector as a series of pulses correlated in time. By comparing the countings of these pulses without or with dead-time, the redundancy of distribution is measured, the deviation from the Poisson law being due to the multiple processes. Experimentally the two countings are done during the same time on two lines, one with a very short dead-time (fast line), the other with a dead-time greater than the life of neutron in the moderator (slow line). This method allows the measurement of multiple processes as spontaneous or induced fissions, or (n, 2n) reactions in présence of single processes.
