Entretanto, pesquisas revelam que seu estudo e aprendizagem requer uma prática pedagógica própria e específica, utilizando estratégias e tarefas que explorem os diferentes sentidos e significados de multiplicação. Este fato aponta para a necessidade de investigar o conhecimento do professor referente aos aspectos matemáticos e didático-pedagógicos do ensino deste conteúdo.
