We make use of the difference in stilbene or plastic fluorescent decay times to identify particles of different ionization power. The circuit design allows one, for example, to obtain the 210Po α spectrum with rejection of 97 % of the 207Bi electron spectrum. The system is based on the properties of the pulse generated across the anode load of the photomultiplier after differentiation. Some circuits have been designed in order to improve the discrimination ratio and time resolution.
