A numerical investigation was carried out to study on the combustion and emission characteristics of dimethyl ether (DME) with wide ranges of injection timings in compression ignition engines. In order to simulate DME combustion processes, a KIVA-3V code coupled with a chemistry solver was used to solve the detailed chemical kinetics model of DME oxidation. In addition, the Kelvin-Helmholtz-Rayleigh-Taylor (KH-RT) hybrid breakup model and Renormalization Group (RNG) k-ε models were applied to analyze the spray characteristics and turbulent flow, respectively.
