This paper deals with main aspects of pathogenesis of urinary tract infection (UTI). Bacterial and host-related factors such as defense mechanisms and predisposing factors are described. Special aspects of UTI in elderly patients and during pregnancy are discussed. Recurrent cystitis and prophylactic measures are also reported.13210-
